Here he explores Deutsche Kriegsmarine Battleship Bismarck, on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Britain. Launched in 1939, fitted out in 1940 and 1941, she first sailed with the Cruiser Prinz Eugen to raid British convoys. Bismarck was intercepted by HMS Hood and Prince of Wales. The Hood was overage, and not well maintained. Prince of Wales was brand new and still had shipyard workers fitting out the guns. Hood was sunk, Bismarck was hurt and the action broke off. Bismarck and Prinz Eugen split up, the British (actually an American patrol plane) found Bismarck in the Bay of Biscay, and she was sunk. Fifty years later, Ballard found her-and here is that story.
