This first book is a great initial look at the couple who wind through the trilogy. She is an attorney at a law firm that she is indebted/contracted to for 7 years. As people of the firm start dying it appears that Clare may be the target. While this may be true, it is not for the reasons one may surmise initially. That is what makes this book good. The plot has so many twists, so many missing people or murdered people that the reader thinks one way, only to find out the reality is something else. These are strong characters (Tony & Clare). They could do many more in a series about them due to the danger of his job (cop) and her ability to draw danger to herself like a magnet. It is surprising up til the end when the truth of the murder is found out and why - especially since there are so many people who seem to have grudges of their own. Add to that the people who appear guilty for several pages/chapters start turning up dead themselves.... Great read all three - keep around for future reading again. Recommended highly.
