I read this book at the urging of a friend ? I must thank her! Daughters of the North was thought provoking, intriguing and I couldn?t wait to finish it.
It is a richly written, highly descriptive work of apocalyptic fiction. With the constant changes in our global weather patterns and economy, the theme of how a society continues after a major upheaval was timely. The book concentrates on a female perspective and challenged me to imagine how I might react in such a situation. The characters are vivid with a relentless drive to survive.
Though I haven?t been to the areas in Britain where this story is based, I was excited by the lush landscapes she painted. There is imagery in this book to excite the senses.
The novel contained an epilogue that provided insight on the author. I enjoyed reading the author?s perspective on the work and its genesis. It was a great way to end the experience.
