Front flyleaf an appropriate vintage replacement and delicate front inner hinge neatly, archivally strengthened; text block lightly age toned as usual; "Printed Matter" inkstamped on bottom page edges. Tight, handsome, elaborately embossed "Franklin Edition" of this 1885 potboiler by U.S. Grant's military secretary (1831-95). Just a reprint edition, but attractive and seldom seen.
