Latitude, 40 02'; longitude, 79 03'; elevation, 2.128 feet. This period at Somerset is not uniform, and it is apparent that the local conditions were not the same throughout. The mean, which is of 22 years for the winter months and 20 years for the summer months, is evidently a fair definition of that climate, a position elevated over 2,100 feet and properly 5 degrees below the temperature at sea level in the same latitude. Comparing Somerset with Philadelphia, there Omitted years 1842, 1843,1850, 1851, I860 and 2. is nearly 5 degrees difference in the mean for each month and for t year.
