C. M. G. Of Montreal He was born and educated in Edinburgh, and when a young man went out to Canada and became one of a band of Scotsmen who were pioneers in the development of that great country. He settled in Montreal, became identified with the Canada Sugar Refinery, and was soon the controlling head of that successful industry. Possessed of great energy, business acumen and sagacity, he was fore mo???t in initiating new enterprises of many kinds, and was Chairman of Coal, Jute and other Companies, President Of the Montreal Board of Trade, Vice President and (in succession to Lord Strathcona) President of the Bank of Montreal, the leading Bank in Canada.
