Bound in green boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (boards are stained and discolored to the edges of the boards). Foxing present. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. One of the famous Union Regiments, the Sharpshooters consisted of individual companies from the various states, organized by Hiram Burden, a noted marksman of the day. Armed with Sharps breechloaders, the two regiments distinguished themselves in combat while serving with the Army of the Potomac. Dressed in green cloth and leather leggings, they claimed participation in sixty-five actions and battles, especially distinguishing themselves at South Mountain, Chancellorsville and at Gettysburg.
