Bound in cloth with gilt titles present to the spine. Boards have light wear present to the extremities of the boards (top edge of the spine is a lightly shelfworn on both volumes). Previous owners' bookplate present to the reverse of both boards. Light foxing present throughout. Text is free of marks. Binding tight and solid. 'An Introduction to English Church Architecture' is a comprehensive and educational guide to Church architecture, fully illustrated throughout. The book was written intended for the general reader, rather than students or those otherwise educated in ancient architecture. The two volumes are split into fourteen chapters, looking at the churches on monks and canons, the planning of said churches, vaulting, walls and arches, the pier, lighting, doorways and porches, bay windows, towers and spires, as well as protection from rain. Written by Francis Bond. Bond had been an exhibitioner of New College and a scholar of Lincoln College, Oxford.
