Lutheran and Episcopalian services are very similar in the use of symbols and traditions. Although there are a few differences, this book is so clear in explaining the background behind everything that it is very useful for either church, and perhaps others like Methodist or Catholic as well.
Written for Lutheran churches, the manual covers just about all the basics of a liturgical year. The one exception is the use of oil candles, which are not mentioned at all. There are many good ideas and practical tips, ranging from recipes for homemade communion bread to setting up joint meetings/workshops with altar guilds from other churches.
As a new altar guild director at an Episcopal church currently in search of a priest, I am looking for advice and help. I am very glad to add this book to our growing sacristy library.
