On their second album, A Pagan Place, the Waterboys turn Celtic folk-rock into a monumental fusion of Van Morrison's poetry, arena rock, and Phil Spector's monolithic wall of sound. Mike Scott's ideas are simply too grand to be executed properly, yet A Pagan Place has enough thrilling moments to make his embarrassing missteps forgivable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

If you enjoy World Party and several other indie/ folk groups like Felt, you will love the Waterboys!
although the personnel changes from time to time, the style remains their own. This band of Irish musicians eager to show the political side of it all, are virtually boundless.
"In a Pagan Place" is was one of their earlier releases. Like "This Is The Sea", it puts a spotlight on the economic conditions of the early 1980s. They relate what has gone wrong in Margaret Thatcher's dis-United Kingdom and how it compares with Reagan's America (AmeriKKKa second to none!).
The Waterboys are a spectacular end to an era and that's what keeps the music lively...
