The straightforwardly named 101 Toddler Favorites delivers exactly what the title promises, gathering four discs' worth of well-known singalongs and lullabies. Beginning with the basics, like "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," "The Wheels on the Bus," "Freré Jacques," and "Happy Birthday," the collection then moves into slightly more obscure songs like "My Little Playmate," "A Sailor Went to Sea," "Kookabura," and "Be Kind to Your Web-Footed Friends." Aside from the familiarity of nearly all of the collection's songs, the other nice thing about 101 Toddler Favorites is that the album doesn't try too hard to be hip; with the exception of "Rappin' Jack" (a hip-hop-ified version of "Jack and the Beanstalk"), the songs and their singers don't sound slick. In particular, the kid singers sound like actual kids instead of performing moppets, which adds a nice, genuine air to their performances. Fittingly enough, the album ends with a selection of lullabies, including "Rock-A-Bye Baby," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and "Brahms Lullaby." This is a solid, unpretentious, and thorough set of children's music that would be equally good for a family or a school to own. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
